Antique Gilbert
Please help. My old Gilbert mantle clock runs too fast! When the first cut, he can win 8 or 9 minutes. in?
24 hours. I have lowered the pendulum and the weight gain of 5 grams. I recently bought and seems in good mechanical condition and appears to have an original weight of Gilbert pendulum. Does anyone has a suggestion. I've never encountered this and I have had many antique clocks earlier. THANKS, JIM
Is it an eight-day clock? usually are. After first day you do settle down and work better? Do you work for a week or only 3 or 4 days? Check that the clock is level and ticks are even. if goes tick, tock, pause, tic, tac, pause, then tilt the watch until it goes tick, pause, tac, pause, twitch, pause, tac and try again. If the spring is older then when the whole string of force on the wheels would be right and then in the next few days the force will disappear very quickly. A repair shop clock could have done a botch job of it instead of paying for a new one. the most likely causes are incorrect spring! Pallets havent been set correctly or are used. It is a game between the leader and the pendulum allows the platforms to jump Play on wheels or worn holes turn the gear ratios is very unlikely that an error as the change of wheels for the different is more difficult to repair properly, first. I will take you back to the store where purchased and have them look into it for you. Make a list of what you are doing exactly this is. day 8 min. Day 2 2 min. Day 5 left that could help.
