Why antique act nice when they want to see what you have, then turn abusive private?
few weeks ago I had a sale aa garage. A man stopped and did not conceal that he was an antiques dealer and asked if there were certain elements that were not offered for general sale. He seemed very kind and interested when I told him I had some of the things mentioned, but had not thought of offering them for sale. We went in and looked at what he had. Then began to find fault with everything, even criticizing the decoration of the house and insinuating that I had bad taste. I did not care for his Jekyll and Hyde character, even me I found it a little scary. If you do not want to buy my items, could have just said so without insulting me and my house and act like everything was below its level consideration. I wondered if all the antique dealers are well or was just a nut job who wanted to see the inside of my house?
You have to be very careful with these guys! Some of them are not longer than men before a group of thieves! But on the other hand, there are some very well, good reputation, but not so as many! We had a "gang" type thing happening here for years. One member posed as a dealer and would get "dates" with people to see what they had. He never bought. And sometime in the next few weeks to a month, people would have a break in the art and the dealer was seeing was stolen. Needless to say, it was not long for the police to see the pattern and arrested this man and he sang for all he was worth. But is not only strong in this day and age to invite someone who does not know well into your home. Next time, take the items to your shop and not go alone!
