Why do the leaves on my white bird of paradise yellow?
I have a white bird of paradise (Strelitzia Nicolai) I got Lowes. It is a small plant not too big, with about 6-7 leaves. Recently I've begun to notice that the second set of leaves at the bottom are starting to turn yellow. Why is this and how I can fix it?
The plant you have is just a baby. It is unlikely that the flower of several years, and will, in full sun to induce flowering. I looked online and found that it can grow 20 to 30 feet high and 6 to 10 feet wide at the zone 10 (south of Florida and Southern California). If you can be sure that the outside plant has room to expand. The first article says that this plant is salt sensitive, so if your water is salty, or you are using water-soluble fertilizer, then the yellow color may be due to salt poisoning. Best to use rainwater or distilled water. Most of the potting soil has little or no nutritional value, so that the mixture of soil from your yard with potting soil when you return to pot. Do not use Miracle Gro potting soil that the fertilizer is included in the form of salt. The plant also does not like to stay wet, so allow the soil to dry between waterings. Overwatering is the most common cause of houseplant death.
