Hamilton 340-020 mantel clock gear replacement?
I have a watch that was given to my father in his retirement from General Motors in 1990. I guess the clock is more than likely a 1980 model. The original gears that are on the clock since then have gone wrong for years to wind the clock with the key. This watch has much meaning for me and I'm wanting to restore the clock to work. From the information I've found I can buy the gear used by about $ 50.00 and new for over $ 200.00. I'm not wanting to mess with those used by the fact that the average life of these gears is 7 years old and the new ones are a lot of money. The I'm wanting to do is either replace the "guts", either with a battery of gear or one with a different type of mechanical arts would be a lower cost and last longer. Anyone can provide information would be greatly appreciated. I know that change is degraded inside the value of the watches, but all I need is to that the operation of the clock.
There are several websites that sell watch parts. Any of them also sell electronic movements can be replaced by his old gear. The change is usually quite easy and it solves the problem of attrition.
