Mantel Clock
1865 New Haven mantel clock chimes unbria wrong.?
Hello, I have a 1865 in New Haven Unbria 8 days mantel clock. I setup strokes by making four bells at 4 pm and will run for 2 days and then the bells go. Not all roads after 2 days, sometimes going to happen after a day or two weeks. Does anyone know what that attends this? Also in the past 27min bells instead of half. It is correct at the time so I was confused. One last thing, it will keep perfect time for 2 weeks and then going to run fast or slow running and I have to make it perfect again, and then two or more weeks later will be again. Any help would be great. Thank you very much.
OK – a couple of things to understand: a) These clocks use brass plates, wheels bronze (gears) and small bronze bearings hardened steel pins, as the axes of the bearings. Bronze is a little self-lubricating, but steel is not. By So you think these watches oil at least every five years or less – or the bearings begin to unite and wear. Unless it is very useful in this kind of thing and know how to remove the works of the case and cleaning and proper lubrication, the best thing you can do is grease simple. Use a roller-tip needle with a small PTFE (Teflon) oil-based. A small drop per bearing. b) The ring mechanism operates independently of the timing mechanism. Therefore, if the chime mechanism stops and wind down the strike and the number of hours and not syncrhonized. In addition, the ring mechanism is regulated by a throttle wheel – often joins, if the pad is dirty. c) The holding time is regulated by the pendulum – mostly. Timekeeping may be compromised in the same way with the clock running slow (very rarely fast) as a result. Ideally, you will eliminate the work on the clock, wipe with a solution of a good clean clock (which need not take the works apart), re-lubricate all bearings and pivots, and re-install and re-regulate the pendulum of time. Syncrhonizing strike at once is easy – you can turn the release lever to get the time / half right, then you can simply slide your hand when the barrel for proper alignment. I did everything what our mechanical clocks last year (5) – from beginning to end, it took about 4 hours, depending on the re-regulation was not really necessary, maintaining a good while now. But the key is immediate lubrication. _will_ Eventually have to clean them, however, or begin to lose their bearings and / or pivots, and expensive to repair.
