How I can recover a charcoal, scuttle with brass fittings?
Both wood and brass furnishings are very dirty there been neglected by t30 years.
If it's an old piece .. less is more. Assuming it's "real" scuttle. Could be better brass fittings removed and cleaned separately if possible. If not, try to clean the whole "dry" with a plastic scrubber to start. Unless remove surface dirt and mud will not have much coal dust, if you have to use a liquid for cleaning. If "wet" is necessary to clean and is really dirty, a cleaning solution of water and caustic (Mex) would be the next best. A couple of good clean pipe w / plastic brush should. Follow a weak acid water solution (white vinegar will do) to neutralize the caustic and rinse well. Water and caustic "pop" the grain to make to dry completely and return to the pad or bronze wool to dislodge the lint. and to clarify the bronze. You can easily end up with an oil finish or even a couple Application of wax If Butcher is just finishing factory, decorative pieces, the same would apply, but should consider using a paint remover liquid first and see if scrubbing is necessary.
